To-day, day, day, day...

Today has been a rather productive day, now that I think about it. I applied for a job at the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter (a 12-bed short-term facility for teens in crisis). It sounds as if it would be extremely challenging but highly rewarding and, obviously, very relevant considering my current educational/career goals. It will be interesting to see if I hear back from the unnamed people who work there.

(As a side note, I always get a little miffed when job listings don't include a contact person. This is mostly because it makes writing the cover letter a bit awkward. You don't want to address "To Whom it May Concern," but what other choice do you have?)

Additionally, I finished the diagram portion of the genogram project I have to complete for my family therapy class. (A genogram is similar to a family tree, but it includes important medical and mental health concerns for each person represented. It also uses a very specific set of symbols to indicate the nature of relationships between family members.) The point of the assignment is for me to look for the patterns that emerge across generations (e.g. alcoholism or depression). I have to write a paper about my findings by Wednesday's class but haven't started it yet. Hopefully I'll get to that in a little bit...

Also, I put together a couple packages to send to some of my dear friends who are studying abroad. And I even managed to watch the Academy Awards (albeit half-heartedly) even though I think they are rather terrible. It's sort of sad that people look forward to them so intently every year. I mostly watch just to sneak a peek at some of the personalities in Hollywood whom I happen to like, but that might be sad, too. I was not very impressed with this year's red carpet fashions, and I think John Stewart did a crummy job of hosting. As on the Daily Show, I just find his delivery to be a total deal breaker (even when his quips are positively hilarious). I still maintain that Stephen Colbert is 1,000 times more clever and cunning.

Anyway, that's all I really have to say right now. Except that, while online "window shopping," I came across a really terrific dress that, if I were the hottest woman alive, I might actually have the confidence to wear:

So hot! It's on sale for $254.50 (marked down from $848) at Shop Bop. (In case you want to get it for me, I wear a size 2. Wink! Wink!)

PS. I just saw Jimmy Kimmel's response to Sarah Silverman's "I'm f*cking Matt Damon" sketch. It's pretty hilarious. When I can find the video on YouTube, I'll post it here.

Quick Poll

I can't tell - is this necklace really powerful or really distasteful? I saw it on the Feminist Majority Foundation's website and can't decide.PS. Happy Valentine's Day (even though I've missed it now by nearly two hours).

Appalled and Disappointed

Facebook has an application called iLike that allows you to post songs on your friends' profiles as well as your own. According to the iLike main page on Facebook, Linkin Park's "In the End" is the fourth most popular song that users add to their profiles.

Wow.

Wiki Hows

I have installed an application on my Google homepage that displays each day's Wiki How. Generally, I find the issues tackled in these entries to be rather informative, but today I found this: How to Get Pregnant. But wait, I'm not done. Here's an illustration of step one: Discontinue any form of birth control.

Sooooooo funny slash gross! Thanks for the heads-up, Wiki How! Job well done!

Wiki-Hows aside, this weekend I'm going to be playing catch-up in order that I might get ahead regarding my academics. I have a novel to finish reading for my class on culture and a paper to write on it. Then, I'll hopefully have time to dive into next week's reading so I can ward off future stress.

The fact that I am writing this blog entry and subsequently planning on watching a movie, though, is not particularly congruent with above mentioned weekend plans. Furthermore, I have decided recently that there is not nearly enough dancing in my life, and I mean that wholeheartedly. (This is related, I promise.) Enter in Blow Up LA!, a dance party of sorts, and I might be able to remedy that situation rather quickly. The event takes place on a weekly basis at a warehouse in downtown LA, and while I have heard about it in the past, I haven't paid much attention to it...until now. I don't really know all that much about it, and the most unfortunate part is that most of my friends seem only to dance in their bedrooms, in front of their computer screens or floor-to-ceiling mirrors (wearing only slips and heels in some cases...ahem...Angela).

Why doesn't anybody like to dance? It is one of the only totally uninhibited forms of letting-go that I know of (in my case, since I suffer from moderate social anxiety, a few drinks also help in this process), and we could all use it as an excuse to skip out on a day's exercise (that is, if you do that sort of thing, which I don't at present). So this is my question for you: Would you ever dance with me? I'd really like to know. (And if the answer is "no," then I might be forced to find new friends. And that would be grim.)

Okay, off to play my invisible harmonica in anticipation of an enthusiastic response from my limited readership.

My 200th Blog Post Ever

Right about now, I feel like this cat:

I'm working on a paper that's due at 7pm, so I have no business writing this blog post. Clearly I have already begun veering off course as far as my semester goals go, but after this paper, I'm seizing back the wheel!

Think about this.

The year 2000 was eight years ago.

It's Super Tuesday!

Go vote, fools!

I'm on my way to do just that (like my friend, above).

Also, go buy these. For me.

They are yet another brilliant creation by Fred and will be available here for a measly $39.99 in the very near future.
